How Centralized Material Handling Streamlines Injection Molding

We consistently look for new ways to deliver timely service and top-quality parts to our customers. When Industry 4.0 transformed how automation and robotics contribute to manufacturing, we invested in state-of-the-art technologies to streamline processes and enhance part quality and performance.

Committed to continuous improvement, we’ve once again leaned into technology to amplify the benefits of injection molding. The recent addition of a Central Material Handling System (CMHS) optimizes operational efficiencies so our customers can capitalize on faster realized sales.

Leveraging Injection Molding Automation

Primarily, the CMHS centralizes the storage, drying, and distribution of raw materials during the injection molding process. This significantly reduces redundancies that consume time and resources.

Our VP of Operations, Bob Reeves, points to CMHS speed and drying capabilities as key to gaining efficiencies.

“For any production run, the CMHS can get material to all of the presses in about 20 seconds. Since the raw feed is already dried, we can immediately start making products.”

Bob details the technology behind these advancements in this short video:

How Our Customers Benefit from the CMHS

The CMHS allows for efficient product flow from receipt to press to finished goods, meaning the world-class parts and service we already deliver to customers is just that much better.

“Seeing Kaysun invest in state-of-the-art technology gives our customers confidence that they’re partnering with an injection molder that’s on the leading edge,” Reeves said. “The CMHS signals time, labor, and energy optimization with mutual benefits.”

Streamlined materials management provides several key advantages for customers, including:

  • Material consistency: One source feeds multiple machines, greatly reducing variation in material characteristics and performance
  • Uniform drying: The CMHS is equipped to dry material prior to distributing it for production, preserving the material properties and overall product quality
  • Minimal contamination risk: Less manual handling means fewer opportunities for contamination and degradation
  • No wet material downtime: CMHS advanced drying capabilities prevent production delays

Why Central Material Handling is Good for the Planet

The increased efficiencies of centralized material handling also positively impacts the environment — a top priority for us and our dedicated Green Team:

  • Running fewer dryers substantially reduces the amount of energy required for production
  • Minimizing downtime also minimizes equipment starts-and-stops, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the machinery and facility
  • Substituting automated material handling for manual processes reduces raw material spillage and overall manufacturing waste, which translates to lower environmental impact and higher sustainability.

Advanced Automation, Strategic Partnerships

Our strategic automation pays off in a number of ways for customers, as evidenced by the addition of the CMHS. Reeves also sees it as an opportunity to elevate the team by giving them the tools to succeed.

“As a member of Kaysun leadership, it makes me extremely proud that we invest in our people. They are our greatest asset. There’s a lot of excitement in the building around the CMHS because they share our vision and fully embrace the technology.”

The combination of technology and teamwork makes Kaysun a standout choice for manufacturers seeking a custom injection molding partner.
